Queer Covid Collection
A collection of queer pandemic plays caught in ruminations on young adult relationships, translating them through contemporary anxieties about the world we live in now and will live in after the pandemic is over.
During the Covid-19 global pandemic, Boeckner felt very isolated, stuck in New Brunswick for school with his family halfway across Canada in Northwestern Ontario. Channelling the resulting anxiety and ruminations into drama, Boeckner wrote three short plays in quick succession. Each of these short plays acts as a slice of life lodged within an intersecting series of queer Covid-19 plays that explore young adult relationships through contemporary anxieties about what it means to feel connected amidst a global pandemic. “Goblin Market” was produced by Theatre UNB’s (TUNB) in the Duels and Duets lineup of December 2020; “Boreal” was read as part of the Plain Site Theatre Festival at St. Thomas University in October of 2020 and is scheduled for full-production in 2021; and “Archive of Fallen Stars” was commissioned by Live Bait Theatre in August of 2020.
