About M.

McKenna James Boeckner (they/them) is a Ph.D. candidate in English at the University of New Brunswick (territory of the Wolastoqiyik people) with a specialization in long eighteenth-century literature with an anticipated defense in Winter 2024. Their research focuses on the ways in which queer archetypes like that of the “fop” challenge normative conceptions of identity, time, and genre in canonical texts of the eighteenth-century, as they evolve from comedic figures into threatening (or promising) political figures that imagine a world otherwise. As a creative writer, they specialize in playwriting in a variety of genres. Their most recent play, Skylark Song, was the mainstage production of Halifax’s OutFest in May of 2022.
